Chubby Coming With Farina To Pet Exhibition

Famous Fat Boy and Monkey Will Be at National City Fair Sept. 3

Chubby's coming.

Chubby weighs 164 pounds on the hoof and stands a little over 14 hands high. And he's coming to the Herald's Pet Exhibition to be held in connection with the National City Fair September 3 to 9 at Benning Fair Grounds.

But wait - let's get this thing straight. Chubby's not an entry - perish the thought - it's Farina, he's the entry.

You probably know Chubby Chaney. He is the famous fat boy of "Our Gang Comedy" fame.

FAMOUS FAT BOY

And now we come to Farina, the namesake of the little pickaninny who also stars in "Our Gang." A hill-billy is Farina, from the far-off mountains of India. Farina is a monkey.

All full-fledged movie actors have to have mascots and Farina is Chubby's.

It seems the two of them were perusing the newspaper the other day out in Hollywood and they saw that the Washington Herald was going to stage a pet show. "Hmmmmmmm,&uqot; hummed Chubby. Turning to Farina, he said:

"Monkey o' mine, you like to show off. Let's go to Washington and see if you can exhibit yourself. How about it?"

AND THEY'RE COMING

So the two of them shook hands on it and now they're coming all the way from the West Coast to the Herald's exhibition.

Chubby will be on hand daily, extolling Farina's virtues and, also, (he states somewhat emphatically) to see that there is no "monkey business" when the cup is awarded in the monkey class.

For all of Farina's Indian glamour, the judges, headed by Dr. William M. Mann, director of the National Zoological Park, will not be influenced. Individual merit is the thing that counts.

That goes for all other pets, too. Zebras, eus, elephants, or elkhounds; if they're pets, bring 'em.
