How does a person catch an eel? Undoubtedly, the man who can solve this problem will know how to interview Jackie Cooper and Robert Coogan as was attempted on location where the two youngsters of Percy Crosby's "Skippy" are carrying on in "Sooky" for Paramount.
"Now," the assistant director says, "you kids have time between scenes. Sit down and talk to the gentieman."
"Well, boys," the interviewer begins, "how are things?"
"Fine, mister," Jackie informs. "Me and Robert's got the best game. See that shed? Well, you're a robber and - "
"You come sneakin' 'round - "
"But," the reporter cautions, "we are supposed to sit here."
Now For a Game
"Ah, that's no fun," interpolates Robert, hopping. "We're gonna play detectuffs."
"Go around the shed like you said you would," Jackie orders.
The interviewer didn't know he had promised, but he goes.
"Now," instructs Jackie, "you're trying to rob that house and Robert and me know it."
"Sure," pants Robert, "detectuffs know everything."
"Play like you start climbin' in the window and me and Robert come a-running up - "
"An' shoot you," announces Robert.
"Naw, that's too quick. Play like ya see us and pull your gat real quick and blaze away and hit Robert - "
"But he don't kill me."
Confusion in Ranks
"Naw, you don't 'zactly kill him."
"Let's play it - right now!" Robert dances again.
So the game starts with the reluctant reporter.
"Get down low," shouts Robert.
"Through the window," calls Jackie.
"We'll just play that I go through the window," suggests the interviewer, eyeing the small opening and some protruding nails.
"Aw," sighs Jackie, "don't ya wanna play, mister?"
"Well, of course, I would rather sit down."
"Let's shoot him before he gets through the window," pants Robert, saving the game. "Bang, bang. Bangety bang."
"Now fall down - fall," yells Jackie.
"Well," explains the scribbler, "you see the ground around here looks pretty dirty and - "
"O.K.," sniffs Jackie. "Guess we better play something quieter. How about aviators?"
"Yea," calls Robert. "Aviator. You're the army we attack."
Aviators proves no better for one seeking an interview. Nor does cowboys, explorers or the other things attempted until the youths have to go back to work.
Well, how DOES one catch an eel?
