Although a famous movie actress, little Mary Ann Jackson, heroine of "Our Gang," enjoys the every-day incidents of life, the same as any other little boy or girl.
Mary Ann, who is 8 years old, and who is appearing in person, today and Thursday, at the Ritz theatre, greeted approximately 2,500 boys and girls who have often admired her on the silver sheet, and who called at the Breeze office between the hours of 11 a. m. and 1 p. m. today. The large supply of autographed photos which she presented the visitors, became exhausted by 12:30 o'clock, but the children were, nevertheless, content with the chance of saying a word to the little star.
Accompanying Mary Ann on her vaudeville tour, which she started last October, is her charming sister, Miss Peaches Jackson. She also was famous as a "kid" star, during her childhood. She is a talented dancer, and was a member of the chorus in "Palmy Days." She also portrays a role in "Whoopee," "Show of Shows," and "Three Wise Girls," and many others.
Mary Ann is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Jackson of Hollywood. Her first appearance in the movies was 7 years ago, she being filmed by Mack Sennett in the Smith Family comedies. For the past three years she has played in "Our Gang Comedies," produced by Hal Roach.
The favorite past-time of Mary Ann is playing Rummy. When guests call at her home, the first thing Mary Ann asks them is, "Do you play Rummy?" and if they do, she ceratinly has a "marvelous" time.
"My ambition," says Mary Ann, "is to be a private secretary, so I can typewrite all day. I got a typewriter for Christmas this year."
Oh, yes, who do you think Mary Ann's boy friend is? Well, he is none other than that popular little actor, Jackie Cooper.
Mary Ann's favorite actress is Joan Crawford, while Joe E. Brown, that famous master of mirth, is her favorite of the actors. "I sure would like to see them co-starred in a picture," exclaimed Mary Ann, during her visit at the Breeze office, today.
Mary Ann is very proud of her sister, Peaches, and also of her two brothers, Dickie, who is 6 years old, and Bobbie who is 12.
