Four-Year-Old Movie Star Prefers Candy To Fan Mail

source: The Dayton Herald of Dayton, OH (May 13, 1938)

Should you offer little four-year-old Patsy May her choice between a bagful of fan mail and a bagful of candy, she'll take the candy every time. For Patsy, despite the fact that she's been in the movies since she was six months old, hasn't been spoiled by cinema fame. She's still just a sweet little girl.

Patsy, smallest member of Hal Roach's 'Our Gang,' has come to Dayton for a visit with her great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Collins, who live on the Wilmington pike, just below Beavertown. This is the first time she has ever seen her great-grandparents.

Mrs. Ross May, Patsy's grandmother and foster mother, accompanied the little movie star here and after a visit of several days the two will continue on a personal appearance tour. Mrs. May adopted the child after her own mother died when she was 11 days old.

Mr. and Mrs. Collins are both natives of Dayton. Mr. Collins is 78 years old and retired from business. He was employed for 41 years as a construction man for the Platt Iron Workes and its predecessors.
