"Freckles" Spear, of "Our Gang" comedy fame, is appearing at the Mayflower theater Saturday for the pleasure of the children of this city, accompanied by his famous dog "Billie," one of the most intelligent dogs in screendom. "Freckles," whose home is in Hollywood, is spending his summer vacation touring the country, appearing at various theaters to give the children a chance to see that movie "stars" are really live people.
"Freckles," who is eight years old, has been in pictures for five years and for three years he has worked with Hal Roach's "Gang." His tour will continue until August, after which time he will return to Hollywood, to school books, the same reading, writing and 'rithmetic, that every other little boy and girl eight years old studies.
His pal, "Billie," who was a gift to Freckles from Irene Castle, a famous dancer and movie star, from her farm for stray dogs and cats known as "Orphans of the Storm," located near Chicago, is Freckles' "side kick." He couldn't appear without "Bill."
Mrs. Harry Spear, "Freckles'" mother, and his manager, S. G. Abrams, are the young movie star's traveling companions.
"Freckles" was royally entertained by boys in Wapakoneta, where he spent a day recently. He was the guest of two Wapakoneta boys to go fishing, swimming and to play Pee Wee golf.
