Harry "Freckles" Spear, the beloved little bad boy of the famous "Our Gang" comedies, will be the special stage attraction at the Princess theatre, for two days only, starting today and a gala matinee this afternoon for the school boys and girls, at which time the little Hollywood star will present to every boy and girl attending the matinee performance an autograph of himself, wearing the original costume he wore during the making of his famous "our gang" comedies.
"Freckles" is making this special personal appearance tour of the state, before returning to Hollywood where he will start on a new series of comedies.
Freckles, who incidentally isn't as hard-boiled as he looks on the screen, is known to every boy and girl as a star of "Our Gang" comedies. He is still a boy, just entering his eleventh year. For the past season, he has made appearances in the leading theatres of the country. He is now visiting the South for the first time.
Freckles took his first part in movies when not quite three years old. He was the original "little bad boy" of the Gang comedies.
In referring to various bits in some of his comedies, Freckles tells how the "mud" the kids threw in one scene after another was not mud, but chocolate pudding. And that when Farina, another member of the gang, fell headlong into a bucket of "soap suds," he was really plunging into a mass of whip cream.
"But the pies they threw were real pies," says Freckles, "and I could hardly wait 'til the scene was over so that I could lick it off."
He's crazy about dogs, and is carrying a prize puppy and its mother on this tour.
