The subject of this filmography is largely a mystery. In Rob Stone's list, he's referred to as
'Shourds,' but in Stone's Laurel Or Hardy book, it's clear that Sherbourne Shields is the actual
name, and that the other spelling is probably an approximation of some Roach employee's messy handwriting. Stone got
his information from available daily production sheets of the Roach studio. Shields may very well have been employed at
Roach prior to and after the years indicated below, so this filmography should not be thought of as complete. His
involvement with Our Gang can be verified only to the extent of "Love My Dog" (no. 59), but it's
possible that he handled props for several other episodes.
1923
Our earliest reference to Shields is from the latter part of this year, when he appears to have become a
regular propman with the Stan Laurel series. This situation seems to have lasted until the end of the year.
1924
Shields' filmography becomes sparse during this year, perhaps an indication of his involvement in some
of the less researched Roach series.
